Report:
The Rubies took on Studz, the social team of Monopoly ex Steelcase from the legal league, in hot conditions at Sandy Bay. The Rubies welcomed back Diccon \"Pieman\" Martin from long term injury and gave a trial to Stephen McKeever between the sticks. The Rubies started in their new 4-4-2 formation with the marauding Al Griffin partnering sssshhhh up front. It proved to be an eventful start as Dave Kennedy sliced through the middle and slotted in the botttom left corner with only 2 minutes on the clock. A repeat of the rout that occurred last week was never on the cards as the mainly gweilo Studz competed for every ball and knocked it around when in possession. Nevertheless it was the Rubies who were creating the chances. It was no surprise when the Rubies doubled the lead on 16 minutes. A far post ball was unselfishly headed back accross goal by Gel and there was Chill to stretch a leg out and toe it into the net. The 1/3 finished with the Rubies well on top. A few changes were made as Diccon, Raul and others were rotated off the bench to accomodate the 16 man squad. As against Highlander the Rubies dipped after the break and Studz pulled one back after 4 minutes. The neat passing of the first half became less evident as the game opened out and the Rubies slipped back into some bad habits. Studz had a confident penalty appeal as the ball reared up on Rimmers shoulder. The Rubies to a man told them what they could do with their appeal and then broke magnificently in a flowing move which ended with a Paul Edmiston shot tipped over well by their keeper. For the final third, Dan, Ged and Dave Kennedy all came back on and the Rubies started to create more chances but lacked composure with the final finish as headers and shots strayed wide. With 2 minutes remaining this profiglacy came back to haunt as a yours/mine mix up between Chill and the keeper allowed their no. 10 to nip in for his second of the game. A flattering result for Studz but some positives for the Rubies and some notable performances by Rimmer, Ged and Dave K. There is no friendly next Saturday but training/ 5 a side continues every Wednesday on roof at South Island School at 8pm. Cheers Rock

You forgot to mention we almost blew it in the last minute when their striker broke through one on one only to put it wide! Then the Rubies went straight back up the field and nearly clinched it in the dying seconds but Dave K's Bryan Robson style header went wide. Good flowing passing at times by the Rubies with good shape. Lots of positives, just need to work on not being complacent at the back and on improving our finishing. How many chances did you have Gel and Dave?
