Report:
The Rubies drop 2 more points as we pay for another poor start. An early start last saturday, but the Rubies were buoyant and confident as they went into the second game of the season with a strong squad. Things looked up even more when we turned up to find we were playing on the astro and not the bumpy grass pitch at Kowloon Tsai. James Burdiss\\\' decision not to bring his kit and the skipper forgetting to bring the team sheet brought a bit of comedy to the pre match proceedings. Shouts of \\\"Bring back Kitson\\\" were rumoured to be heard as the Rubies warmed up! The game could not have got off to a worse start. The Ruby passing style was nowhere to be seen as time and again we failed to control the ball or find a man. In the middle we were overun and, at the back, we were making a lot of mistakes with Stormin looking like he had just poured out of Neptunes to make it to the game! The writing was on the wall when, following another mix up at the back, the Good Rich striker broke through one on one with Normin Stanley Fletcher only to be thwarted this time by some great keeping by our clean mouthed cat. Unfortunately the cat could not repeat his heroics five minutes later when, after another mistake at the back, Good rich broke through with two players clear this time and combined to slot the ball past Leverick to go into a well deserved lead. Changes were made half way through the first half with Abbiss replacing Forrest, Burdiss (back from getting his kit from home) replacing Scott and Chillington replacing Houghton. The rest of the half continued with the Rubies failing to string together any kind of continuity or create any chances up front. At half time, it was decided to make a tactical change and move from 4-4-2 to 3-5-2 to try to get some width and get Kennedy and Gel into the game. Creber came on for Stormin and Chetwode moved up into the right wing position. The move seemed to work as the Rubies came out in the second half looking more balanced and getting into the game a bit more. However, Good Rich continued to close us down quickly and look threatening on the break. In fact, the early chances went to Good Rich with once again the cat coming to the rescue on one occasion and their striker missing a clear chance on the other. Slowly but surely though the Rubies started to impose themselves a bit more. Sure enough, with about 15 minutes gone in the second half, a Ruby corner was only half cleared to Roskell on the edge of the area who struck a fine shot into the top corner (via a large deflection off one of their defenders) to put the Rubies back on level terms. The rest of the half was a even affair with both sides pushing to get the winner. It almost came when a good move by the Rubies saw Kennedy set up outside the box by Scotty only to see his shot go agonisingly wide for what would have surely been the winner! Two games into the league campaign and the Rubies remain unbeated but without a win.
