Report:
The Rubies went into the MASSIVE top of the table clash with only 13 fit/available players at the tiny pitch at Kowloon Tsai. Starting with Justin in goal and an attacking 3-5-2 formation, the Rubies started well winning the midfield and creating the early pressure. Mawds headed over a Ponce corner and Paul E spun and shot wide and the deja vu feeling from last week returned. The Consulate started to compete but the Ruby defence held firm other than a couple of misplaced passes. The half ended when a Consulate player suffered a nasty arm injury requiring an ambulance to be called. The delay lasted 35 minutes until he was stretchered off. The second half started with the Consulate down to 9 men however they started the better and the Rubies took a while to make 11 tell. The pressure started to build - James B had moved upfront and shot over and then a couple of Ruby corners went close. The Rubies then got a golden opportunity when their defender accidentally handled and the ref pointed to the spot. The skipper stepped up and spooned it over the bar and the 10m safety fence to the disbelief of all around. Knowing this would be a shortened half the Rubies continued to press and got the vital goal when James chested, muscled past his man and shot left footed into the bottom right hand corner. The tension lifted and the game played out as the ref brought the second half to a close after only 16 minutes.
Some very good performances from the vocal Justin who did what he had to do, James proved the matchwinner but the sponsors Honey of the Week was Dan Turner who excelled in defence and attack.
Training on WEDNESDAY - please get on the site - back at Kowloon Tsai same time next week.
