Report:
The Rubies went into this MASSIVE top of the table clash knowing that it was a must win as Good Rich had beaten Consulate 5-0 in the preceding match at Kowloon Tsai. The Rubies started well and were getting first to the ball and creating chances down the right where James and Dan were getting some space. The first chance fell to the Rubies when Gel stabbed the ball wide from close in from Dan\'s cross. Mawds headed over from another Dan cross as the Rubies tried to capitalise on their good start. MPR then started to get into the game and were matching the physicality of the Rubies with some robust challenges. On 8 minutes, Babyface was robbed in the right back position, their striker skipped past Chill and shot for the top corner only to Norman Stanley acrobatically turn it round the post. Both sides settled down and started to play some football. Gel hooked over with his back to goal and MPR nearly caught out the Rubies at a free kick when the Rubies switched off when lining up the wall. The Ruby breakthrough came on 22 minutes when Fingers stole between keeper and right back to stoop to head in Dan\'s right wing cross before the second bounce. Dan then picked up a harsh booking as his oppo jumped into him rather than tackle. The half ended when Fingers volleyed over from the edge of the box. The tight game continued in the second half as the swirling wind and some odd refereeing decisons made it a scrappy game. Despite their pressing and hustle, MPR were finding it hard to create a clear cut chance. Mawds and James were working hard up front and the killer goal came on 20 minutes - Mawds broke down the left wing, crossed across the face of goal, Dan pulled it back from the right and Gel bundled it in at the second attempt. Four minutes later Mawds long range effort looked to be hitting the bar until their keeper took the pace off it and helped it into the top corner. MPR did not let up and the Perfume Ponce was lucky only to receive a yellow after pushing over his oppo Dave K style following a foul. The minutes ticked by and Rubies closed out the game to seal a vital win. Some very good performances throughout the team for man of the match however the sponsors Honey of the Week went to Tim Chill who made some timely interceptions throughout particularly at 1-0. There are no more league games till January - watch the website for details. Nursie may need players for the Jocks Pot match on Boxing Day - let him know if you fancy a game - post match beers and lunch provided by Jardines. Best wishes for Christmas and New Year to all. Cheers Rock
