Report:
The Rubies went into this potential title decider with only 13 fit and available players as the squad was ravaged by the usual reasons of injury, overseas travel, bronchitis and camping trips. The Rubies started brightly on the big astro pitch and had the better of the early play without creating a clear cut chance. Goodrich were providing reminders of their pace on the break and Bingo was busy at left back to snuff out their quick interchanges. The Ponce was involved in some neat play involving Bingo and Mark C but the resultant crosses did not trouble the Goodrich defence. Gel shot wide as the Rubies were struggling to get a shot on target. At the other end Goodrich broke down the right and the resultant shot was nicked off the line by Paul C for a corner. For the remainder of the half the game stayed tight, both sides forcing corners but not able to capitalise. Just before hald time, Bingo\'s through ball found James B but his snap shot found the side netting. The second half started with Goodrich really taking the game to the Rubies at high tempo. After quick exchanges, their striker rounded NS only for Paul C to clear off the line again. Shortly after the ball was loose in the area and the Goodrich shot was deflected onto the Ruby crossbar by Bingo. The Rubies then picked up and Paul E was close with a diving header from Paul C\'s cross. Shortly later a good move down the right involving Dan and JB resulted in James cross being just too high for Paul E. With 6 minutes left Goodrich got the breakthrough, a quick one two on the edge of the box left NS exposed, he was able to save the first shot but Goodrich swept in the rebound. Their bench erupted and ran on the pitch as this seemed like the killer blow. The Rubies immediately brought back on Shorty for a sacrificed Steve Z to play 3 up front. Within a minute the Rubies were level as Dan T hit a cross cum shot from 50 yards which looped over the stranded keeper to mass Ruby celebration. The Rubies were able to play out the remaining time into the corners without too much trouble. A great performance in terms of effort and work rate with several candidates for MOM however the unanimous Honey of the Week was Paul Clayton. Thanks to Paul E who finished his shift at 3am. There is a game next Saturday will have details very soon - please watch the website. Go the Rubies! Rock
